I enjoyed this one! I had an idea about some of the ending but not all of it!The book club as a way to tie it all together definitely was a bonus。

Good read。。。

There are so many characters in this neighborhood that at first it was really hard to keep it all straight。 The story was confusing at first but soon became more clear and overall it was an interesting concept that was maybe a bit overdeveloped。 This one was just meh for me。

“Life—people—did succumb to patterns and rhythms。 The neighborhood was an assembly line。 Miniature fungible dolls on a conveyor belt, moving in, moving out。 Low-stakes drama and routines year after year。” I thought this was a fun book to read。 I like getting to know the neighborhood drama and I really liked how the book club books were relevant to the neighborhood drama。 I also thought the book did a good job describing the difficulties of parenting, and how easy it is to compare yourself to oth “Life—people—did succumb to patterns and rhythms。 The neighborhood was an assembly line。 Miniature fungible dolls on a conveyor belt, moving in, moving out。 Low-stakes drama and routines year after year。” I thought this was a fun book to read。 I like getting to know the neighborhood drama and I really liked how the book club books were relevant to the neighborhood drama。 I also thought the book did a good job describing the difficulties of parenting, and how easy it is to compare yourself to other parents - your own neighbors! It was hard for me to keep track of the characters because the perspectives changed pretty quickly and you can tell it is building up to one drastic scene, and it does that but it all happens so fast to so many characters that I really had to take my time reading the end so I could understand it all。 And while the ending was not surprising, you also did not see it all happening the way it did。 。。。more

Really fun read! I loved the setting - a book club as the social epicenter in this quaint, seemingly perfect neighborhood。 The twists and plot twists throughout keep you thoroughly engaged and it’s just a great little ride to escape on。

Holy crap, this book。 I went into it with little to no expectations。 I finished by being blown out of the water。 I 100% did not see the ending coming。The Neighbor's Secret was so wonderfully written- I could easily have found myself sitting on Lena's couch enjoying tea and discussing life。 Books like this make me excited to read and validate my obsession with wanting more on my shelves。 Do yourself a favor and pick this one up。I'm off to find a book club to join。 Holy crap, this book。 I went into it with little to no expectations。 I finished by being blown out of the water。 I 100% did not see the ending coming。The Neighbor's Secret was so wonderfully written- I could easily have found myself sitting on Lena's couch enjoying tea and discussing life。 Books like this make me excited to read and validate my obsession with wanting more on my shelves。 Do yourself a favor and pick this one up。I'm off to find a book club to join。 。。。more

This wasn’t a terrible book, but I could not get into it。 There were too many characters with too many detailed storylines。 I found it difficult to keep track of all the people and their specific drama。 I felt the ending was underwhelming and just wanted the book to be over so I could move on。

Meh。 I wasn't a fan of her writing style and the way she introduced characters was confusing。 It got better but it just wasn't great。 Meh。 I wasn't a fan of her writing style and the way she introduced characters was confusing。 It got better but it just wasn't great。 。。。more

A very busy book。 Started out good but the plot became tedious。

This is a very good read。 I gave it three stars because it had so many characters I had trouble keeping up with who was who。

I have to say, this was pretty good, just not for me。Between the slow pace, the amount of twists, journal notes, and emails。 It was a bit of a struggle for me to focus on the main story。 Which I thought was one thing and ended up being something entirely differentThis wasn't a bad book, I did actually enjoy reading it。 It just felt like too much was happening。Overall I liked reading this one and could recommend it based on specific interests。 I have to say, this was pretty good, just not for me。Between the slow pace, the amount of twists, journal notes, and emails。 It was a bit of a struggle for me to focus on the main story。 Which I thought was one thing and ended up being something entirely differentThis wasn't a bad book, I did actually enjoy reading it。 It just felt like too much was happening。Overall I liked reading this one and could recommend it based on specific interests。 。。。more

A rare miss from BOTM

This book was fascinating。 There were many twists and turns, and none were predictable!

Susan Kovach

It was decent…I think there were too many different points of view in the story and too many storylines。 Also, the flashbacks were a little confusing。 I couldn’t really fully invest in the characters。

Jaime Dylewski

Did not finish。

I really loved this book! The bookclub ladies were so stereotypical they added humor, yet there were plenty of serious parenting dilemmas, as well as the neighborhood secrets that kept me guessing。 I really enjoyed it!! Super easy read that Kept me engaged。 I’m grateful my KY bookclub girls are way more down to earth and “normal” 🤣

If you are looking for an edge-of-your-seat-thriller with little character development and lots of action, this is probably not for you。 But if you want a book that takes you inside the characters’ hearts and minds, with a deliciously drawn-out slow burn of a mystery, it will not disappoint! This is a smart, hilarious and well-constructed read。 I loved it。

Secrets run deep in the neighborhood of Cottonwood Estates。 When a series of acts of vandalism come to light, the ladies of the book club have differing opinions on who may be responsible。 But they have one thing in common—a deep desire to protect their children。 Annie and Lena are connected in more ways than the other may be fully aware。 Annie works up the courage to invite Lena to book club, which stirs up feelings from the past that neither of them may be ready to face。 This one had similar v Secrets run deep in the neighborhood of Cottonwood Estates。 When a series of acts of vandalism come to light, the ladies of the book club have differing opinions on who may be responsible。 But they have one thing in common—a deep desire to protect their children。 Annie and Lena are connected in more ways than the other may be fully aware。 Annie works up the courage to invite Lena to book club, which stirs up feelings from the past that neither of them may be ready to face。 This one had similar vibes to The Husbands, where it’s a suburban neighborhood full of secrets。 A fun mystery to solve! 。。。more

5 stars。 I loved this book! Cottonwood Estates is the perfect neighborhood, with great schools and engaged residents。 Everyone seems so engaged in the community and family-oriented。 The (hilarious) monthly book club invitation helps set the pace of the novel, with the perspectives of multiple women telling the story between meetings。 With the appearance of vandalism in the neighborhood, it becomes clear that the residents aren't as perfect as they seem。 Indeed, I wondered at the neighbor referen 5 stars。 I loved this book! Not my favorite。 I feel like it was hard to keep all the characters straight。 I liked the general story line but it just lacked for me。

3。5 StarsThe Neighbor's Secrets follows three women and the Cottonwood Book Club, where you discover early on that everyone has a secret that some are hiding better than others。 This book reminded me so much of Big Little Lies but also Liane Moriarty! 3。5 stars。 My September BOTM。 A quick, fun and unpredictable read。 Finished it in two days。 It definitely has Big Little Lies vibes。

While there's nothing inherently wrong with this book, it took me forever to finish。 I never got drawn into the story, and found it took me a long time to keep Annie, Jen, Laurel, Lena, etc, etc, etc straight。 I felt like there was a lot of fluff that didn't really add to the plot (i。e。 all the book club meetings)。 Almost felt like the entire plot was told in a matter of about 12 pages and the rest was relatively useless in figuring out what happened。 While there's nothing inherently wrong with this book, it took me forever to finish。 I never got drawn into the story, and found it took me a long time to keep Annie, Jen, Laurel, Lena, etc, etc, etc straight。 I felt like there was a lot of fluff that didn't really add to the plot (i。e。 all the book club meetings)。 Almost felt like the entire plot was told in a matter of about 12 pages and the rest was relatively useless in figuring out what happened。 。。。more

2。5 ⭐️ This book was super underwhelming for me。 I finished it because I almost never DNF books, but this was a close one for me。 Too many characters, none of who I really loved。 Not sure why some of them were included。 The ending did have a little surprise to it that I didn’t expect which is why I rounded up… otherwise, it was an ehh book for me。

Elisa

This was almost a 5 for me until the last 20 pages or so。 It was perfect build up and great character development but the ending just seemed incongruent

I haven't read a 5 star book in a while。 I am super glad I picked up this one!The Cottonwood Book Club meets once a month, with some really fun sounding themes。 They are the mothers of the Cottonwood neighborhood, all with their own little secrets。 Annie decides to befriend Lena, the rich woman in the biggest house。 Lena was a big fixture in the neighborhood before a tragedy struck years before。 This tragedy has had repercussions for a few of the neighbors。 (It really is The Neighbors' Secrets) I haven't read a 5 star book in a while。 I am super glad I picked up this one!The Cottonwood Book Club meets once a month, with some really fun sounding themes。 They are the mothers of the Cottonwood neighborhood, all with their own little secrets。 Annie decides to befriend Lena, the rich woman in the biggest house。 Lena was a big fixture in the neighborhood before a tragedy struck years before。 This tragedy has had repercussions for a few of the neighbors。 (It really is The Neighbors' Secrets) As they navigate motherhood, vandalism, secrets, teenagers, things unravel and we learn all the secrets。I loved this book。 I loved how it slowly unfolded and we got bits and pieces to make us wonder just what happened all those years ago and just what in the world was happening now。 Then there was the humor! I laughed out loud a few times。 The main characters of Lena, Annie and Jen were all thoughtfully written and so honest and real。 I think they were every mother, all protective in their own ways。 What won't a mother do for her children? I am definitely going to look up her other books now! Thanks to Netgalley and Flatiron for an advance copy of this book。 。。。more

I was very disappointed in the story。 It had good potential dealing with a club where members discussed various books even murder。 The problem is the author spent all of her time dealing with the characters and their children。 I kept on waiting for something to happen。 I like mysteries in which you try to guess the killer but there was nothing to guess。 Except for the last 20 pages there was nothing interesting even then the big secrets were not that exciting。
